Holiday greetings coming from the former first couple, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, are still some of the highlights of Christmas to many Americans. But the Obamas found a way to make their family’s official Christmas card more adorable, thanks to ex-presidential pets Bo and Sunny.
Obamas complete Christmas 2019 card with signatures of Bo and Sunny
Former first lady Michelle Obama took to Instagram to show her more than 35 million followers the family’s Christmas card this year. Below the brief Christmas and New Year greeting, signatures of the Obama family are seen along with tiny paw-shaped stamps beside Bo and Sunny’s name.
“Wishing you a holiday season filled with friends, family, and joy,” the former first lady wrote in the caption. Anyone who followed the Obamas’ eight-year stay at the White House would immediately recognize the names Bo and Sunny. The Portuguese water dogs became famously known as the presidential pets, with Bo being officially introduced in 2009, followed by Sunny in 2013, though both dogs were born a year before they made their public debuts.
Bo and Sunny have been repeatedly mentioned on Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s interviews during and after their stay in the White House. The presidential pets have also made several media appearances on their own. For one, Ellen DeGeneres featured a skit on her self-titled show in 2012, where she pretended to have stolen Bo from the Obamas’ official residence at the time.

Barack Obama also greeted his Twitter followers with a photo of their Christmas tree at home. The ex-president wrote, “From the Obama family to yours, Merry Christmas!”
While the Obamas just recently purchase a new home at Martha’s Vineyard, the photo appears to have been taken in Hawaii. It has been known for years that it is the Obama family’s tradition to travel to Hawaii.
A couple of videos that went viral earlier this week suggest that Barack Obama is keeping that tradition this year as well. The former president halted his golf session at least twice to greet and briefly carry two babies at the Mid-Pacific Country Club.
